It is enjoyable to almost anyone. My husband and I go every year from Kansas City, MO. We always stay in a hotel (which is pricey that weekend-but worth it). We find the race to be good clean fun.

If you're into more of a party atmosphere, I would recommend camping out in the lots surronding IMS (Indianapolis Motor Speedway)...there seems to be alot of "fun" going on there:). Some people who live near the track also will "rent" you a spot on their lawn to put up a tent. You can camp out right in their front yard.

Before the race, all are welcome on the inside of the track near the pits for free. You can get pretty close to the cars and drivers. It is a very fan-friendly race.

There are all walks of life at the race. Young, old, black, white...everyone enjoys it.

If you can't make it that weekend, you can always go any weekend during the month of May....practice and qualifications take place. It is much more affordable.

I would say that IMS is definitely worth seeing once in your life. It is amazing.

Feel free to contact me through answers if you have anymore questions. Take care---have a fun safe trip!

You can go to the Indy 500, they sell general admission tickets at the gate and they always have. The snake pit is no more though the infield people may want to think they are reliving the days of the snake pit they really are not. Go to the Indy just make sure your there the night before the race for the party. I say go its a great race and the beer does flow freely, or bring your own in. Great people as well.

The Indy 500 is nowhere near as raucous as in year's past. The crowd is down, they all have seats and there are more things to keep them entertained than before.

Your biggest problem is getting a place to stay. The only convenient camping nearby is pretty pricey and often booked up for years in advance.

You will never forget the day you sat watching the Indy 500. That track alone is worth the price of admission and then some. All the history from the early days to NASCAR running there....Dude, GO!

The Indianapolis 500 is among the greatest spectacles in all of sports. If you have the opportunity to see it, by no means should you miss out. The entire area in and around Speedway is packed, but that's all part of the mystique. The people will be generally friendly, because they are mostly there to share a passion for racing. Get there early, as space for anything is a premium, and have a blast. You will meet great people and have a great experience. Come back in June and tell us all how great it was. Best of luck, and happy packing!

The Indy 500 is the biggest freaking party in Indiana. Infield inside turn 1, is called the snake pit. They get pretty crazy in there. Most of the infield is nuts.

I sat in the stands for opening day of qualifying once, you could almost call that a family atmosphere?

Lot's of booze flowing.

It used to be really tough ticket to get.

Danny Sullivan dives low by using turn one on lap one hundred twenty to seize the lead from Mario Andretti, basically to have the tail slide out as he exits the turn. He spins around one and 1 / 4 situations around the south %u201Cshort chutep.c.u201D as Andretti dives to the interior to effectively sidestep a collision. Miraculously, Sullivan thoroughly avoids hitting the wall, recovers from the spin and then makes his way around to the pits for a transformation of tires. not one of the drivers could have self assurance what they have seen, and tire engineers are surprised to discover the tires undergo no flat spots. Twenty laps later, Sullivan passes Andretti back, in precisely an identical place, and this time is helpful.

i would skip the indy 500, and go to the formula 1 race there in june. The cars are cooler, the drivers are better, and its not a boring oval
